The three main benefits for building owners are: Allows a deduction for the cost of installing energy efficient property in commercial buildings, up to $1.80 per square foot if it reduces total annual energy and power costs by 50% or more compared to a reference building that meets minimum requirements. Allows a partial deduction of up to $0.60 per square foot for each building system (interior lighting, heating/cooling, and building envelope) if it meets certain energy savings percentages compared to the reference building, even if the 50% total savings is not achieved.
